OSAKA (Kyodo) In old folk tales, storks delivered babies. But the bird has also brought a unexpected bonanza to farmers in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture: Higher prices for locally grown rice.
Toyooka is the last area in Japan where wild Oriental storks are living naturally. With the number of the birds rapidly falling for years, the local community started in 1989 to artificially breed the birds and release them into the wild.

I had to read this a couple of times before I realized they weren't preserving rice in stork. It gave me thoughts of civet coffee.
