Regarding the Feb. 4 AP article "Pope's swipe at British equality laws angers foes" (Page 7): One might conclude from the headline and the one-sided quotes in the article attributed to the National Secular Society and the British Humanist Association that Pope Benedict XVI, for no good reason, unleashed a broadside against legislation protecting women and gays from discrimination. Only when the article finally reports a fact does one see that the pope "did not make a specific complaint about equality acts past or pending."
The pope's actual focus is that the law should take account of religious freedom and respect the natural law on which equality is grounded. So what's the fuss really about?
