When involved in a fight, sometimes the more dangerous moments are right before the fight is joined when one has decided to fight before the others. Even professionals can be caught flat while on the job which highlights that the lay person really needs to work on awareness and the skills to recognize when the confrontation goes armed and lethal. Learning how to 'see and touch frisk' is a great skill set to work on for professionals and the lay person.

Absolutely right in that violence can happen anywhere and at any time. While I do not frequent this Wal Mart in Las Vegas I have been there once. (it is a long way from where I live) So this is very pertinent to the over all general area in which I live. I would further add that you just never know what could happen and where gun violence or police action could happen. Take for instance the police shooting that happened in Las Vegas at the Summerlin Costco. This is one of the richest areas of Las Vegas yet violence happened there that day. Yes I have been and am a member at this Costco. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jul/10/police-investigate-shooting/

The first mistake was that the officer should have held back, the female was the perps cover. The perp had many options there, but if the officer had flanked both sides, but more to the perp, that could have warned the perp off. Would have made him think "am I quick enough" This after the obvious beginning.
