Hi,
Arnisador asked me about FMA in France.
So, FMA are arrived in France late, in the end of the eighties, and stayed a long time unknown by the Martial Arts community.
Few french guys went to L.A to train at the Inosanto Academy.
In the beginning of the nineties, Robert Paturel, a great Savate Champion and police trainer, learned some FMA technics, whereas he conducted some Savate seminars in the Inosanto Academy.
As he was developping a self defense system with Tonfa and empty hands for the law enforcement, he used some tecnics and concepfs from the FMA.
Paturel is very popular, so a lot of people from martial arts, boxing an law enforcement, are become very interested by FMA, for the globality and efficiency of the technics at all ranges with or without weapons.
So more instructors came from U.S, Germany, England to conduted seminars, and some french martial artists, began to go to England (Bob Breen) or to the U.S ( Inosanto, Mike Inay...) to train.
Now the FMA are well known, but we still have few schools, because few instructors certified, 20 schools in France.
The styles represented are : Inosanto Kali, Inayan Eskrima, Kali Sikaran, Doblete Rapilon, Koredas Obra Mano, Balintawak, Modern arnis, Rapid Arnis.
It is some time difficult but we try to work together. Last month as held in Paris, a great seminar with 11 of the main FMA french schools, it was great.
