Wish me luck. I'm starting my introductory lesson with Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu in San Diego under Professor Dominic Parker on Monday.

Enjoy it man, you won't need luck, just focused attention and effort.
The rest comes with time.

Of course, SensibleManiac, you are right. I know to approach any martial art focus and dedication.

I am looking forward to training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu properly as opposed to adhoc lessons via Army Combatives or with friends of mine that are well trained in the art.

From what I've heard, GB has gone to a pretty rigidly structured curriculum. If you're looking for organized BJJ instruction, you'll probably really like it.

Just have fun.

...and BJJ is a FUN art.

Something about sparring on the mat just has a real meditative quality to it, I don't know how to explain it further, just one of those things you have to experience. It's just great for mental focus and getting a real high, especially when your skills start coming together.
