Dana White’s Christmas Wish List

With Christmas just days away, everyone is sure to be checking off their Christmas wish lists. Some of us hope for socks, while others may seek electronics. For UFC President Dana White adding to the organization’s roster is always a top priority. We take a minute to imagine what, or better yet, who the most powerful man in the industry may be asking Santa Claus for this holiday season.

10. Marlon Sandro (17-1)
At 33 years old, time is running out for this top-ranked featherweight. Sandro has been as impressive as any fighter in his last three bouts, following the first loss of his career to Michihiro Omigawa in Sengoku. He has good power in his hands to go along with a strong ground game. Adding Sandro into the mix at 145 pounds would instantly make UFC’s new division as strong as any in the organization.

9. Antonio Silva (15-2)
The UFC heavyweight division is in a sort of upheaval at the moment. Roy Nelson has contract issues, no word when and who Brock Lesnar is fighting next, and former interim champion Shane Carwin is still working his way back from an injury. And the list of title contenders behind Junior Dos Santos is virtually non-existent. Adding a fighter like Silva could definitely solidify the UFC heavyweight division and present a host of quality matchups. Silva’s combination of size, striking, and grappling skills make him as solid as they come in a fighter that will consistently be in the title picture for years to come.

8. Robbie Lawler (18-6)
Since leaving the UFC six years ago, Robbie Lawler is 10-3 as a middleweight. He has notched wins over Niko Vitale, Frank Trigg, Ninja Rua, Melvin Manhoef, and most recently Matt Lindland. Lawler is still young, only twenty-eight, and his hard-hitting and stalking style is always pleasing to the fans. With the UFC middleweight division always in of top-flight talent, Lawler could be involved in numerous intriguing matches.

7. Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1)
It is possible that Dana White has made hasty decisions in the past. One of those might have been letting go of Fabricio Werdum. Although the world renowned grappler has fought sparingly since 2008 release, Werdum has notched wins over Antonio Silva and Fedor Emelianenko, both competitors that would certainly be considered top-ten caliber. With his striking improving every fight, and his growing popularity since defeating Emelianenko, White could certainly use another name to go along with Lesnar and Velasquez at the top of the heavyweight division.

6. Gilbert Melendez (19-2)
The UFC certainly does not have a shortage of fighters at lightweight. However, they do not have fighters like Gilbert Melendez in abundance. Melendez, the current Strikeforce lightweight champion, uses his strong wrestling to keep the fight standing, which would certainly please the UFC brass. His power is lauded as some of the best in the division, as well as his technical ability. Melendez is definitely not a “need” for the organization, but adding a top fighter in any division could never hurt.

5. Gegard Mousasi (30-3-1)
The UFC light heavyweight may still be the UFC’s crown jewel, but while the top of the division is star-studded, it lacks quality depth. Enter Gegard Mousasi. Mousasi could be as good as Machida or Rua, or could just add some much needed depth. For years, and certainly since the loss to Mo Lawal, many people suspected that Mousasi has all the ability to be one of the best in the world—he just lacks the consistent motivation. A revolving door of top pound-for-pound opponents, like the ones he would see in the UFC, could be just what “The Dreamcatcher” and White need in order to capitalize on his massive potential.

Dana will do what will make him the most money, that is all the UFC has become since the explosion of MMA.
