I've been out of the dojo for the past 2 months or something. They found a growth inside my left kidney and are very concerned that it can rupture if struck. It also sometimes produces a lot of lower back pain.

I have been doing my own practicing but it's hard without a partner to provide any real pressure training. I'm also obviously concerned about my health, I mean they said there is a possibility it could be something very terrible. I won't know for sure until I see a specialist who is out until like the end of January.

Keep your thoughts as positive as possible to manage your stress levels. Sorry to hear that particular specialist is out for so long. Hopefully you'll be able to find another specialist that can take a look at it sooner than the end of January. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hopefully when you see the specialist he can give you some good news and you can return to training. Until then, the gym and solo workouts will have to suffice. Good luck!

I don't think I would do and pressure / resistance training with a partner if someone told me that something on the inside may rupture if struck. Accidents happen and there's no way to tell how much force is needed to cause a rupture. It could be a full force strike or it could be a tap that normally wouldn't even cause a bruise. Last thing a person would want is for it to be something like infection that gets everywhere once it ruptures.

To clarify, I wasn't suggesting any pressure or resistance. I was thinking lifting (since ironbear likes that), and form work.

Sorry to hear about the stressful (and sometimes painful) issue, IB. Do what you can to take care of yourself, so you'll be ready to start back as soon as that specialist gives you the all-clear. You'll be in our thoughts over here, in the meantime.

That sucks man. But health is way more important than your training also use the solo practice to your advantage it can build fitness and muscle memory and your not getting injured as well just do the best you can do

Take it easy witht he kidney, even if you do have a backup. It's always good to keep the backup as the backup. Good advice, avoiding contact drills of any kind until you get the right scans done to figure out what's up.

Sorry to hear this, Iron Bear. You’ve got to get healthy. If that means taking time off, then that’s what it means. Better to take some time off to get healthy and be able to fight another day.

Easier said than done. I had Lyme disease from November-March last year. Watching class sucked. But it is what it is.

I'm sorry to heart that, hopefully the specialist will be able to help. I would do whatever your physician recommended until you can see the specialist. Did you ask your physician specifically if solo training is okay?
