Hello! My name is Alan and I am a Wing Chun student/practitioner.

Wing Chun is my first and only martial art and I was introduced to it by my Sifu, Master John Wahnish. He is a talented, patient, and extremely open minded instructor who did everything he could to help me feel as though I really “owned the art.” The sense of ownership was important because, to me, it translated to a detailed, transparent, and practical understanding of the axiomatic nature of the art.

In math, most know that multiplying two negative numbers by each other yields a positive. They’re taught this in grade school. But the understanding of why that is the case is not immediately intuitive. While studying Wing Chun, there have been several instances that I can compare to this math example, and Sifu helped me “prove,” axiomatically, the validity and broad applications of small units of movement that at first seemed counterintuitive.

I have continued to study the art and will most likely do so for the rest of my life. It has helped me put fear of conflict into perspective and grow as a person. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you and recording my own questions along the way.
