Muay Thai Muay Thai is commonly referred to as the "science of eight limbs," and is Thailand's national sport. Muay Thai is derived from the hand-to-hand aspect of the ancient Siamese art known as, "Krabi Krabong;" and was once performed for the entertainment of the King of Siam. Muay Thai is known for its distinct rituals, incredible conditioning, devastating round (Thai) kicks and the merciless use of knees and elbows.

foot injury

I figure this would be a good place to ask this question. I was doing a roundhouse kick on a sand bag about 10 months ago and accidentally only caught it with the very top of my foot. ( I guess thats not very definative, where the toes are attached to the foot) Anyways, I immediately felt a sharp pain in my foot joint where the top of the foot meets the bottom of your shin. (my shin doesnt hurt, more just the top of that joint) Basically I think that my foot got stretched too far back into the wrong direction. It has been 10 months now. I have iced, wrapped, used hot water with epsom salt, ate TONS of Motrin, elevated, went to physical therapy and done little exercises, everything that I and the doctor can think of. I am getting an MRI and bone scan in a couple of weeks. In all fairness, I did keep training on it up until 6 weeks ago so that probably wasnt too bright. Has anyone out there experienced this? If so, do you have any ideas to get it better? Ancient chinese secrets? Ancient Thailad-ese secrets?
Thanks in advance.

yeah I have done that, but I on;y sprained it.. I took care of it and was fine a week latter.. if the pain persists for more than a week or two from the time of the injury you should realy see a doctor.. I have known a couple of people who did simular things (worked an injured joint for months after the injury) and it takes a LONG time to recover.. My advise would be give your ankle a break, take some time off from practice to get it taken care of, also does your doctor specialise in sports medicine? if not you may seek a sports specialist.

Speaking of foot injury, according this site (in the kick section), shin cancer rate is very high in Thailand. Not sure what that implies. (not enough info there to say much)

Im pretty sure that it means they get shin cancer from all the kicks to the shin. However, Ive read elsewhere that they typically start out at an age like 6. So unless you are going to start out that young and do it for your whole life, you will probably be OK.
