Do i take the fight?
Ok so I need some advice do I take the fight or not. Basically I trained for a white collar boxing fight for 4 weeks then my partner found out she was pregnant and thus I was not able to fight. There were three other female fighters but all where out of my height and weight range so I was not able to carry on. This was 6 weeks ago. I have since then not boxed but been doing MT and loving it, I train hard. Last night my old boxing trainer got in contact and said that all of the other girls have dropped out (3 in total) and he is left with one girl who can fight and asked me if I would like to fight her as its for charity and he has heard I have kept training. I have not sparred in boxing for 6 weeks; this girl is 6KG heavier than me and 4 inches taller. I would have 4 weeks to train before stepping into the ring. I have previously fought before but three years ago so it’s while since I have been in a ring. Previous record is good with Wins and 1 KO. Do I take the fight? I am really in two minds. |

Re: Do i take the fight?
To be honest I'd have so say no, sorry. the weight difference is not in your favour and it's a fair bit of difference. I think you could well make up your traiing in time but it's the weight more than anything that concerns me, it's nearly a stone heavier.

Re: Do i take the fight?
6 KG is about 13 pounds. Thats a pretty big weight difference.
I can't assess whether you've got time to prepare because I don't know where you're starting; for an experienced fighter who's already in shape, a month is plenty to sharpen up. For an intermediate fighter or one who needs to condition, 8 to 12 weeks is probably the minimum. For a novice, no way. You seem probably to be in the intermediate range -- if there's any doubt, error on the side of being less experienced.

If you are of two minds then part of you already says no. You are thinking but it is for charity and that would be a good thing. I agree it would be. But if you get hurt and it prevents you from fighting in MT or other boxing then that is bad. The questions to ask the promoter or other fighter is can you give a demo fight, non sanctioned so no records are effected and to make sure that the level of contact is on the technical level not the know them out level. It could still be a beating. If you go in thinking badly and thinking you will loose then you will. The weight is an issue, and the smaller you are the more it becomes an issue. The training time could be an issue but as JKS stated it depends upon your starting point and level of skill. Only you and your training could answer that. Also remember a failure to plan or an emergency for someone else does not automatically mean an emergency for you. In the end only you can answer it, but look at the data as to why you think no and why you think yes. Drop the ego if the yes is others might think less of you. Drop the ego if the yes is for charity only as well. If those are you only yes reasons, then you have to decide if they mean that much to you. If the no is only for minimum training and your conditioning is up to speed, but you are worried that your MT training will get you fouled out or points taken away, only you can answer that with your training level. No real answer, just trying to help you put it into words or ideas you think about and then make a decision. Good Luck

Re: Do i take the fight?
Not a lady, but I do have experience fighting heavier people. It wasn't until my 5th fight (MMA) that I fought someone in my weight class.
It's not fun fighting people a lot bigger than you, but it's REALLY not fun fighting someone larger when it is quality weight. When I say quality, I mean muscle. When I was fighting at 165, I got talked into a bought with a guy that was 265. That fight was actually pretty easy for me, I kept my distance and wore the fat slob out by chopping him down. The 180lb fighter I fought tossed me around like a rag doll though. The 100lbs the one guy had on me was mostly fat, the 15lbs the other guy had was solid muscle. Makes a HUUUUUUGE difference. It also matters what weight you're fighting at. 6kg's at a body weight of 50kg's is a lot. 4 weeks to train for the fight? Unless you were already in training for a fight around that same time frame, I'd say pass on it. That's not enough time to get you properly prepared for a fight, much less against a larger fighter that was already training to fight. Just my $0.02, YMMV. |

Re: Do i take the fight?
you've already got some great answers (13lbs is about two weight classes bigger than you, btw, & 4in is a big reach advantage) i just wanted add that, beneath the professional level at least, opponent's will drop out or change for one reason or another more often than not. when people start getting paid this problem somehow largely goes away for some reason. just something to keep in mind for any future promotions you might agree to fight for.

Re: Do i take the fight?
I agree with the others. I'd say "No." Judging from your post, you had to drop out previously because there were no fighters in your weight range
