Yes, I'm looking forward to it as well. Should be a great time. I've 'known' you from the forum for quite some time. It'll be nice to finally meet/train in person. :)

Just bumping this up! It's right around the corner. Also it looks like another inst. was added, who will be doing a JKD segment. I'll try to get more info to pass along on that. :)

As promised, I wanted to add in a little bio about the gentleman that will be doing the JKD portion of the camp.

Sifu Robert Fass began his martial arts training 24 years ago, in a very loosely based style of Kenpo and trained in it for over 7 years. Unsatisfied with what he had previously learned Sifu Fass took a martial arts sabbatical, until he met Sifu Martinez 9 years ago and began his training in Paul Vunak's expression of Jeet Kune Do, Progressive Fighting System; 6 years later Sifu Fass received his instructor certificate in Jeet Kune Do Concepts under a Sifu Lopez. It was 3 years ago that Sifu Fass began training in Modern Arnis under Master of Tapi-Tapi Brian Zawilinski. In order to seek the roots of Jun Fan Gung Fu, Bruce Lee's personal expression of Jeet Kune Do, Sifu Fass began to study Ip Man Wing Chun 2 years ago under the guidance of Sifu Chan who directly studied under Ip Chan (Ip Man's youngest son).

I wish I could be there too. My niece is getting married in June, my nephew in August, so their weddings are eating up my vacation time/budget. But, family comes first...

Have a great time!

Good job. Everybody seemed like they had fun.
I would only suggest though, that you have me also teach Balintawak next year ;) , to show another flavor and perhaps a Balintawak evolutionary history lecture, since you'd have a few different methodologies of Balintawak present.

Or maybe a lecture would only be fun for me :)

Well, another successfull camp! I'll give a little breakdown of what was taught. Instead of going day by day, I'm going to lump a little of what each of the instructors taught, into their own respective groups. :)

First off, I'll like to say a few things. Some of the people I mention may/may not be members here, but even if they dont see this, thats ok, I'd still like to comment. :)

First, to my instructor, Master Brian Zawilinski...this, IMHO, was by far, the best Ct. camp that I've been to!!! Quite a while ago, he had asked my thoughts, on bringing in some other people, aside from the MoTTs, to give a slighly different flavor, so to speak, to the camp. Still keep it Modern Arnis, but also have others share, so as to expand on our Arnis knowledge, and to show how nicely other things blend into this wonderful art. Its an honor being your student as well as your friend. I'm very fortunate to have him pretty much right in my backyard. Every time I train with him, my knowledge base goes up that much more.

Masters Rich and Tim...it was a great pleasure to meet both of you. I've 'talked' to both Rich and Tim online, obviously, and to Tim on the phone a few times, but it was great to meet and train with you. It was great having the opportunity to grab a bite to eat with both of you after the Thur night session. I also had the honor of being uke for both of them. I'd have to say that for a good portion of the seminar, Tim called me up so he could demo on me. Its always nice to be able to lay hands with people who have that much skill and knowledge. I enjoyed the time that they spent with me, answering any questions that I had, outside of the time spent during the camp.

Chris from CT....Chris, it was great meeting you. I wish that I had more time to talk/train with you, but hopefully our paths will cross again sometime soon.

John...it was good seeing you also. Hopefully next time we could have more time to workout.

Paul Kischkum...Paul was my first Arnis teacher after I resumed training. A great man with a wealth of knowledge. He trained me to Black Belt and I credit alot of what I know today, to him. Due to real life, it had been quite a while since I had the chance to workout with him, but fortunately, he was there for 2 days of the camp, so I spent a good portion of those days working with him.

Robert Fass...Robert has been at the Ct camp, I believe, 4 times now. This was the first time though, that I actually had the chance to meet/train with him. The mans skill/knowldge in WC and JKD is amazing. We had the chance to chat for a few after a few of the sessions, as well as at the closing of the camp. I hope to have the chance to get in some training or just hangout, in the near future.

Chris Martell....Chris has been a long-time friend. Chris is also a wealth of knowledge and a superb technician, with pretty much everything he does. He is, IMO, a very technical person, especially when it comes to his BJJ. As always, I got alot out of his sessions.

Ok...now onto a small breakdown of what was taught. :)

Robert: Roberts JKD session was awesome! He started out with some defense using the Kuboton. We covered 5 different techniques. His 2nd session covered some WC/JKD punching defense, as well as the empty hand tapi-tapi from Arnis, with a WC/JKD flavor to it. Definately some great stuff.

Chris: Chris covered some chokes from BJJ, but the entry to them had a Arnis flavor to them. :D As I said, Chris is very technical when it comes to BJJ, and proof of that was seen when he was giving his breakdown on the RNC. I believe he said it was 7 steps, but it was amazing how nobody got to #7. LOL. Basically, you should only get a few moves into it, and if you're doing it correctly, the person will be tapping. If ya get to 7, you're not doing something right. Amazing how a little tweek can make all the difference in the world!!! Chris also did some stick work, the focus being on Kalis Ilustrisimo.

Brian: We covered various stick techniques, locks, both with and without the stick. Much like Chris, Brian is also very technical with his Arnis, and its amazing how a slight change can make or break the effectiveness of what you're doing.

Rich: This was my first taste of Balintawak. We covered various stick drills and techniques, as well as a bit of tapi-tapi but with the Balintawak flavor added to it. Rich also shared quite a bit of Balintawak history as well.

Tim: We covered some striking patterns, both with the stick and the blade. Tim uses a slightly different pattern, from the one that I'm familiar with, but nonetheless, it was very good. :) He went over some double stick material, that GM Ernesto uses in his brand of Arnis. We also did some knife work, which included single and double blade.

Before you knew it, the 3 days had flew by! Amazing how time flies when you're having a great time!!! :) :) My body is sore, and my head is still spinning, trying to process all that was covered over the past 3 days. It was good to see old friends, as well as making new ones. The last day of the camp, always concludes with a fantastic dinner at O'Rourkes Diner. Brian O'Rourke is a great man and a Master chef in his own right. I did not attend the dinner, but I have in the past, but one thing for you, you can always count on a fantastic meal.

So, thats it folks. Another camp down. The next big event will be the reunion camp in July. 3 of the people who taught at the Cromwell camp, will be teaching at the reunion.

For those that made it to this one, it was certainly an outstanding time. Its nice to train with no egos, no BS, and with people who are willing to share what they know. I hope to see you all next year!:ultracool

I'm back from the CT camp. It was a great camp! I will have a more detailed review later. For now I will say it's one of the best events I've attended outside the WMAA events. master Brian runs a class event. You should put next year's camp on your to do list!

Wow! Glad to hear it went so well. I'll definitely participate more in the next one. I was feeling a bit ill the whole weekend. Hope you all come back sometime.
