both.
When I was a green belt, my instructor had me do at my test, blindfolded through 2 boards. After that, I was doing it at all our demo's and tests. It is a very powerful kick, but looks damn good too!

Kind of boring but I get the most use out of just a standard front thrust kick, a back kick and my knee.

A short/fast snap to the inside of the attackers shin as I punch them in the face.
Takes little time, little balance, is hard to detect... draws their attention lower and away from what my hands are doing... hurts bad, disrupts their balance/stability....
not bad....

For power, I like the side, back, axe, and Thai style roundhouse kicks.
For speed, I like the roundhouse, cresent (my cresent kicks have no power :( ), and front kicks. I can get them up to head level for a good point LOL.
For showing off, I like the 360 roundhouse, flying side kick ..... well any jumping kicks hehehehe. I can get pretty good height with a jump front kick :D

Round kick - body and legs. Jump back kick - more of a jumping "into" motion rather than up.Good power in both of these. I have very good tech. with the spin hook kick, but only used it for tournament sparring. If you didn't land it perfectly out in the world, you would probably get dumped!

Ah yes........for me, this would be the wheel kick. When sparring, I like to shoot it low- just kick it out there- not to hit anything, but because usually, it causes the opponent to drop a hand or two to cover it- then I immediately shoot it to the head or mid-section. I have learned you have to be careful with this one though.........about 10 years ago, I got disqualified in a tournament cuz I hit the target- the other girl's nose.........which bled and I felt really bad........but it is martial arts, right?!! And upon viewing the video tape of it on replay, slow motion- she moves into it!! Ah well...........:asian: :karate:

Ahh, you mean the football (soccer) kick top the head while he's lying on the floor?

or the knee to the chin or knee drop to the face. It doesn't matter to me as long as I am still standing and breathing.

REMINDER: You are always responsible for everything you throw. regardless if I head butt your fist.......if it is 'no contact' then I win...

I probably like thrust kicks the most, I know I definatly use them the most. It's easy to get out of a tight situation with a good front thrust.
After that I probably use all kinds of low line kicks and stomps taking advantage of the protection of the shoe.
After that proably sidekicks in combination with side stepping in boxing range..
And last on the lst would be round kicks.. usualy a cut kick or a big obvious one to draw a counter so I can nail a leg with a side kick.
The most natural fealing kick for me is a round kick into a thigh. But as long as you mix everything up in combination you can end up finding a place for anything.

is a wheel kick like a roundhouse or like a cresnt or cartwheel kick?

It's almost like a spinning hook, except you keep your leg straight (kinda hard to explain). I'm better at showing things than explaining them LOL

in TSD or in TKD, did they teach you jump out to in crescent as a tornado (ball of foot) or as a actual out to in crescent, just with jumping and turning first?
wow...did that make sense?

The wheel kick for us (Kenpo) is like a roundhouse kick only instead of kicking with the ball of the foot, you kick with the instep or top of the foot- so your toes are pointed, not flexed back. It's got a really fast retraction to it so you can kick low then high or vice versa....or to varying levels rather quickly. I think it's been my favorite since I started martial arts. :asian: :karate:

Wheel kick for TKD (like Karate Kid already said) is like a spinning hook kick but you keep the leg straight. This means you spin your rear shoulder back, whip your hip and raise your leg so that the back of the leg is sweeping around to lay into the target with the back of the heel.
For power I agree turning back kick or turning side kick are the most powerful on the spot kicks.
Kenpo calls roundhouse wheel kick? Interesting, we call the 2 varitations of roundhouse, roundhouse with the instep or roundhouse with the ball of the foot. But that would be head level.... for the torso it's called turning kick.

hehehe, in JKD they are all called hook kicks.
For power I would think a crossover side kick followed by the thai style round kick. I tihnk the power you can generate is about equal with each but the direction and focus of the side kick as well as the ability to follow through gives it greater affect.

MT style leg kick would be my favorite. Followed by side then push kick.

i usually like simple kicks, like the low snap kick, best. it's not as showy nor as beautiful to watch as a jump or spin kick but i find it's simplicity a little more reassuring.

I think my most favorite has to be the round kick. It can be thrown in any number of ways at any level (depending on your flexibility). Also, combined with good footwork, it can be thrown from just about any angle. You can jump with it, duck with it, side step with it, spin with it, pretty much anything! I've even heard stories of learning this kick really well, granting super powers :D!
Hehe, aside from the versitility of this kick... I believe this is my most trickest kick. I can pull off alot of feints and follow-ups with the round kick. Can't leave out the set-ups either. In TKD, I was taught a good round kick means a good foundation of kicking. Maybe thats why I love it so much :p. Definately my most favorite kick by far.
Just my $0.02 cents.:asian:
