Hey everybody, my name is Ethan Feilich, and I am currently a high school student in New York. I have begun research for the INTEL ISEF competition, a rather prestigious competition for research students and specialists alike.
I am studying the effects of martial arts on early adults, and I would be grateful if anybody between the ages of 18 to 25 would be kind enough to take just a few minutes their your time to help my research by participating in a small survey in the link below. My survey is not intrusive, and all results are anonymous. None of your personal information is divulged, and the results are tallied together online before I can even tell how many people have taken the survey.
If you'd like to review the terms of my survey or even create your own, visit SurveyMonkey.com.
Anyway, the scientific community and myself thanks you for your participation!

I'm guessing it is all a plot by the "kids" to overthrow us geezers :
The purpose of this study is to collect information about the perceptions of early adult martial artists and role-playing gamers.
Um, a question, and I will start with I don’t fit the demographic…unless being 18 twice working on 3 and close to 25 twice counts :D
The purpose of your study, as a long time martial artists appears to be comparing Martial Arts training to a roll playing game and if that is the case, IMO, it is a little insulting but then I’m an old guy that has been at this a long time and I am likely just overly sensitive.

As the mentor for this student's Intel science research competition project, I'll address this with a few comments:
#1 The student/researcher has been a martial artist nearly his entire life, and he has great respect for martial arts practitioners.
#2 It is NOT the purpose of the study to compare martial arts training to a role playing game.
#3 We cannot divulge the actual hypothesis behind the study, because it may bias the survey-taker (though Bob Hubbard, Admin, is aware).
#4 He needs as many responses as possible from martial artists as well as non-martial artists who fit the age range, 18-25.
So, if you're 18-25, please take the survey. Or if you're old like me, please send the link to people you know who are in that age range.
And hopefully you'll be reading the results in a peer-reviewed scientific journal some day.
Thanks.

I think the gamers are winning...I guess maybe they have nothing else to do but take online surveys!

Well as a long time martial creative individuals seems to be matching Martial Arts teaching to a roll playing game and if that is the case, IMO, it is a little abusing but then I’m an vintage friend that has been at this a long time and I am probable just overly sensitive.

Some of which like sheng here who are coomon posters and generaly quite helpful ones to boot. I should like to see this survey.

I'm going to guess that the survey expired. It was by a high school student targeting a particular science fair sort of competition, and they probably needed to collect and process their data. In fact, I just looked it up, and it appears the competition was in March.
It would be nice if the original poster would take a moment and share their results with us.

Yes that would be great. In fact there is still a lot science could benefit from with study of the martial arts especially in the field of psychology. We as martial artists also have much to gain from these studies.

Martial artists and role playing games OR Martial artists who frequent internet forums and role playing games....
I wonder what the correlation there would be?

I agree. That's why I'd love to see a report!
