How very sad to see the product of so much design work and effort fall into disuse :(.

Turn 'em into something useful. Some of the best cropland in America was turned into those temples of mindless consumption. With a little work it could be again. Others could be turned into industrial buildings if we ever pull our heads out and start making stuff again.

Or it would be a good place to make housing for all of the people who are filing for bankruptcy. And for the homeless.

I was in the Randell Park Mall back in the late 90's. Beautiful inside. Had like 3 open stores.

Actually, no. I also went to a former Computer City, that's now a Gym, a former CompUSA that's a bounce house, a former dead plaza that's full, and a couple other "dead" spots that were booming.
Another plaza I went to in Hamburg NY that's been 100% empty for 20+ years, is gone, a new SuperWalmart was actively being built, and right next to it is a new Lowes under active construction. Another plaza that was mostly dead now holds an Ollies, a Crawford furniture, and something else that just said "opening soon", but I didn't see a name.
I've got about 5 more locations to hit before I wrap this project up. I'm curious to see what's there, as 2 are former Media Play's that have been empty since MP went bust.

I expect that we'll continue to see a lot more of this, and yet they continue to build new stores because it's cheaper to build new than it is to renovate. Ridiculous!

Some of the best fossil beds of dead stores are in Syracuse.
