Heh. Thats only done by the Nihangs...and only in India.

The Nihangs are generally recognizable by how they only dress in the traditional colors of orange and blue...

....and wear really....reallly......reaaaaalllllllyyyy huuuuuuge turbans. :eek:

(There is easily over 100 yards of cloth in that turban. How many people did it take to fold it that way??)

The Nihangs seem a touch crazy, but in a good way. I like the idea that the knights-errant weren't a hereditary class but were open to anyone willing to give everything up for the privilege.

But 100 yards of cloth? Yowza. He must be three or four inches shorter from the spinal compression of carting that thing around.

If you're really interested, look for the Sikh community in your area and start talking to them. I'll tell you though, they're often very closed lipped about Gatka training and it may take you some time to find the right people.

Also, depending on where in Oregon you are, I may have a connection there.

That's not politically correct whimpering either....Nanak wrote in to the Adi Granth that men and women are equal in the 1500s, and the Sikhs have had brave women warriors (http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php?title=Mai_Bhago_ji) fight in battle. The Nihangs should uphold the scripture they swear to serve.
