Hi everyone,
I lurk here quite a bit and occasionally post as TakadaDojoKeith. But my real name is Keith Vargo. I write a column for Black Belt magazine that you may have seen.
I just wanted to let everyone know that Black Belt Books has put together a compilation of my columns and is publishing it in a few weeks. The title is "Philosophy of Fighting: Morals and Motivations of the Modern Warrior" and it'll be available from December 15th. Here's a link to it at the Black Belt website's shop... http://www.shopblackbelt.com/phoffimoandm.html (http://www.shopblackbelt.com/phoffimoandm.html)
Also, I'm putting together a website to support this book and future projects. I'll post a link to the site here soon.

Sounds great what aspect of street survival are you talking about.

The book isn't really about street survival, though it does touch on the subject. It's a collection of essays on many different aspects of the martial arts. Here are some examples...

Hello Mr Vargo

Your book looks like an interesting read.

Do the articles span your 10 years of writing? and if so have your opinions/ideals/beliefs changed over the past 10 years as MMA has grown into a hybrid form of it's own?

Will it be released in book stores here in Australia (possibly Borders?) or only through the Black Belt store?

I have only read Black Belt magazine occasionally but look forward to reading more of your work.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, the articles span 10 years worth of writing. Have I changed my mind about some things? Sure. For example, my opinion of different MMA events and rule sets has changed as the they have changed. But my basic belief that fight sports are both good and necessary hasn't changed.

As for the books release schedule, you'd have to ask the staff at Black Belt Books. All I know for certain is that Black Belt has it in in stock now and you can order it through them. I imagine it will be availiable through other online retailers like Amazon soon. But I certainly hope bookstores in Australia carry it, too!

Finally, thanks for the kind words. If you'd like to read more of my columns, there are some posted on the Black Belt website. Also, I'll have a small website of my own up soon with more essays, links, and information. When I'm finished pulling it together, I'll post a link here.
