Nice mini-documentary on the history of Bartitsu, probably the first mixed Asian-European martial art (it was called "baritsu" in the Sherlock Holmes stories).

Kind of a sad story; the founder had high hopes for the art but it was swamped by the popularity of jujitsu and basically forgotten for almost 100 years. If it had succeeded, the JKD/MMA revolutions might have started in Edwardian London.

I knew of it from the old Sir. Connan Doyle stories of Shurlock Homes. My understanding was apparently correct. a mix of western stick fighting and boxing and some of the wrestling from Europe as well as fencing from several styles and types of sword, and some of the techniques of several styles of japanese jujitsu.
