Whatta y'all think?
Tell me what you like, dont like, etc and I'll see what we can hack into it.
Have already gotten requests for file transfers, and more colors...oh, and more smilies.
I'm open to color schemes too, as it seems the lighter text colors don't show up very well on the defaults.
More goodies being rolled out shortly!
:asian:
Rich Parsons 03-06-2003, 09:51 PM I love it
I wish you were there.
You are missing out.
:) :asian:
Add more colors and smiles, and maybe allow the same names from MT.
Name length is restricted.
:)
Elfan 03-06-2003, 09:59 PM - Fix error messages so if you are missing a paramter to a command it tells you that instead of "This is not a valid command!"
- *Less* colors that burn the eyes
- I don't think this is feasible but it would be nice if there was a way to autocomplete names (like presssing tab in mIRC). Comunicaton goes better if we spell those nicknames right
- Is there a difference between:
/quit [message]
/exit [message]
/bye [message]
- I don't supose its possible to auto register when you log into the fourms?
- Can you connect to the chat in any way besides a browser web app?
Cthulhu 03-06-2003, 11:13 PM Also, if any of you are having trouble using the chat feature, let us know here or in the MT Support forum.
Cthulhu
Cthulhu 03-06-2003, 11:23 PM One thing I'd like to see:
A button from the forum linking to the chatroom that will open it up in a new window.
Unless it's already set there and I'm just friggin' blind. :)
Cthulhu
Bob Hubbard 03-07-2003, 01:09 AM A button from the forum linking to the chatroom that will open it up in a new window.
I'm going to work on a new button layout, and will have the 'Chat' link in there.
- Fix error messages so if you are missing a parameter to a command it tells you that instead of "This is not a valid command!"
Will look into this....
- *Less* colors that burn the eyes
I am looking into how to darken the background. I think that will open up more colors for use.
- I don't think this is feasible but it would be nice if there was a way to autocomplete names (like presssing tab in mIRC). Comunicaton goes better if we spell those nicknames right
I'll see if theres a hack to do that. You can click on the name on the right to direct a public message, or click on a name in the 'chat' area to target a private message.
- Is there a difference between:
/quit [message]
/exit [message]
/bye [message]
I dont believe so.
- I don't supose its possible to auto register when you log into the fourms?
Not in the current configuration. I'm still looking into ways to tie it into the forum user database directly. Havent found a 'safe' way yet.
- Can you connect to the chat in any way besides a browser web app?
No. This chat room is a clientside application writen in php that links to a mysql backend. Its only accessible thru a web browser. I looked into running a private ICR chanel here, and it was too severe on the server. (IRC tends to be a server hog, AFAIK)
Add more colors and smiles, and maybe allow the same names from MT.
More smilies will be added slowly. Maybe a couple a week as I have time.
Name length is restricted.
We will look into that and see if we cant increase it....

KenpoGirl 03-07-2003, 10:35 AM It's a great feature Kaith, I've enjoyed using it.
BUT .........
I'd like to see a larger font, much too small for this nearsited person.
:)
Bob Hubbard 03-07-2003, 12:59 PM If you are using Internet Explorer:
VIEW - Text Size - pick a bigger one. :)

I tried your suggestion. It makes no difference.
and it's an updated program.
:wah:
Bob Hubbard 03-07-2003, 07:54 PM ok, youre right, and Im wrong. I just ran some tests and it seems 'locked' to a certain size.
What resolution are you running your system at?
I think its a CSS issue in the code, but I'll look into it.
Elfan 03-09-2003, 11:18 AM - Some way to indicated away status. like Elfan|away or something like that.
Master of Blades 03-09-2003, 03:57 PM Okay call me stupid but how do you get the damn thing to work! I go to the place, type in my name and password, press just chat and then it goes to a blank page with the time at the bottom before going straigh back to the password screen! what do I do
arnisador 03-09-2003, 04:39 PM What name are you registered under on chat?

Master of Blades 03-09-2003, 05:51 PM AOL.......if thats what you mean?
Bob Hubbard 03-09-2003, 07:15 PM After running several tests, we have determined that due to proprietary coding, the AOL 'browser' is incompatable with the chatroom software. This is due to known issues with CSS and javascripts not working in AOLs browsers.
Please note - The problem lies with AOL, not the chatroom software.
In order to get access to the chatroom, please use one of the following browsers:
Supported Browsers:
Internet Explorer 4.x or greater (comes bundled with all windows pcs)
Netscape 6.x or greater. http://netscape.com
Mozilla 1.13 or greater. http://www.mozilla.org
Opera 5.x or greater. http://www.opera.com
We do not support the following:
AOL web browser
Compuserve web browser
Netscape 4.x or earlier
Internet Explorer 3.x or earlier
I apologize for the inconvenience.
:asian:
arnisador 03-09-2003, 10:41 PM Note, you should be able to use any one of those browsers while using the AOL service, and they are available for free. There should be no cost to implement this work-around.

Rob_Broad 03-10-2003, 12:10 AM Since i very close to being almost completely computer illiterate, I will say, "Me like chatroom, very easy to work!"
Bob Hubbard 03-10-2003, 03:07 AM Who's Chatting? feature is a no-go at this time. I tried for a few hours to get it to work, and each time it would crash both the forum and the chatroom. I'm going to do more research and try again later.

Chatroom usernames now allow upto 30 characters.
Rich Parsons 03-10-2003, 10:28 PM Bob,
We just ran into another problem, minor yet wanting to report it.
I did not see "Grant" log in until he posted. I then refreshed and he was there and all was well for me.
Yet Grant wanted to know about the latest changes. Double spacing and font changes. He was/is using I.E. 5.5
Just FYI, neither of us see this as a show stopper :D
Bob Hubbard 03-11-2003, 12:16 AM Font changes?
None.
All I did was bump up the allowed characters in the user name.
Odd...
Master of Blades 03-11-2003, 07:37 PM Okay finally got the thing to work, its cool, just still no one on and its 11 and night here! So its 6 or so there! :(
Master of Blades 03-12-2003, 01:03 PM Okay I figured I would try it out by myself if no one else is ever on it and just chat and get the hang of it etc and here is what I came up with
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
03:48:19 GouRonin enters this room
03:48:43 [GouRonin] Ha!
03:48:54 [GouRonin] This chat room is mine!
03:49:01 [GouRonin] I claim it in the name of me!
08:30:39 gouronin enters this room
08:31:55 [gouronin] Again!
08:32:16 [gouronin] I claim this room as mine!
08:32:21 [gouronin] Ha ha ha!
08:44:46 gouronin exits from this room
09:38:29 arnisador enters this room
09:39:13 [arnisador] GouRonin you need to get more sleep!
09:41:48 arnisador exits from this room
10:15:18 lonekimono enters this room
10:15:41 lonekimono exits from this room
10:48:51 gouronin enters this room
10:49:49 [gouronin] Sleep? What is this sleep you speak of?
10:50:05 [gouronin] P.S. - This room is mine!
10:50:08 gouronin exits from this room
11:38:46 Joseph enters this room
11:38:47 >[Joseph] Welcome to our MartialTalk chatroom. Please obey the net etiquette while chatting: try to be pleasant and polite.
11:39:27 [Joseph] nooooooooooooooooooooo
11:39:35 [Joseph] Come back someone
11:44:25 lonekimono enters this room
11:45:06 [lonekimono] no to beat up??
11:45:54 [lonekimono] bowing uot
11:45:57 lonekimono exits from this room
11:47:23 [Joseph] come back :'(
11:47:56 [Joseph] oh for crying out loud -_-'
11:53:09 [Joseph] I am the MOB man, I come from far away, I marched them up to the top of the hill and I marched them all away *whistles*
11:55:50 [Joseph] The artist formely and still known as MOB
11:56:00 [Joseph] or BOM
11:56:05 [Joseph] or Bob
11:56:10 [Joseph] or Joseph
11:56:22 [Joseph] Why am I talking to myself :|
11:56:43 [Joseph] White writing :O
11:56:54 [Joseph] But Blue is my natural colour
12:00:19 [Joseph] Still, come to think of it this room is pretty cool.....But nothing is happening.....*yawn*
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Yeah its pretty cool, I just wish someone was on at the same time as me
Jill666 03-12-2003, 06:24 PM A couple of times I have popped my head in about 8pm est, and if I see others have popped in, I'll leave a message with a time I'll be back. Then others will see it and join me then.
Another idea is to see who's online when you are, and pm them that you will be chatting & when. This also has worked.
Elfan 03-13-2003, 11:14 PM This probably goes in the infeaseble category but... IE at least makes a clicking noise when a page loads. Because the chatroom is constantly reloading, it constantly makes that clicking noise, which gets very annoying after a while. I don't supose there is some way to deal with that.
Jill666 03-15-2003, 09:23 PM Hey I used the chat button, but it loaded all weird-
text was inverted, color button was standard, did I stuble onto a beta mode or something? I had to exit & re-enter.
Bob Hubbard 03-15-2003, 09:31 PM Nope... but Ill look into it. We're not doing any work on it at the moment...hmmm...
Elfan 03-16-2003, 07:26 PM Mozilla 1.3x and Phoenix .5 both display the chat "backwards."
Like this (note the time stamps):
18:15:22 [Elfan] so werid
18:15:17 [Elfan] haha mozilla counts it backwards
18:14:42 [Elfan] ...
18:13:34 fistoffury enters this room
----
This makes the chat very confusing to say the least. I'm not sure if this is a mozilla issue or one with the chat room.
Jill666 03-16-2003, 07:39 PM IE did that to me last night, then I used /order command and reloaded, which then worked properly. I told Elf- who tried it and got invalid command. Now I don't see the command on my help file- which affirms my suspicion I inadvertantly stumbled on a mod command page or something. Jeez- if I only knew the power was mine I'd have banished you all!
Bwahahaha!
Elfan 03-16-2003, 07:39 PM Okay I'm dumb and didnt' read the help file. I see that "/order" should switch it around but when I try to type that command I get "This is not a valid command!" errors.
Bob Hubbard 03-16-2003, 08:27 PM ok, if ya found a mod page, youre 1 up on me...heh...
hmm.... keep the feedback coming..I've got some time planned this week to hopefully dig majorly into things...
Elfan 03-25-2003, 06:43 PM Exit messages seem to be inconsistantly displayed (backwards still)
17:34:36 [Elfan] how are you?
17:34:17 [Elfan] hello
17:30:07 [TommyGirl] hello?
17:29:34 TommyGirl enters this room
17:27:06 kenpo_kirk exits from this room
17:25:47 kenpo_kirk enters this room
17:24:25 fistoffury enters this room
17:19:50 KenpoGirl exits from this room
17:15:34 arnisador exits from this room
17:15:08 [KenpoGirl] :D How's it going, eh?
17:14:35 KenpoGirl enters this room
17:14:19 arnisador enters this room
17:08:46 [KenkaWarrior] How are you?
17:08:39 [KenkaWarrior] eerk
17:08:36 [KenkaWarrior] How are you?
17:08:20 [KenkaWarrior] I am :-P
17:08:17 [KenkaWarrior] hi
17:04:34 [TommyGirl] hello? is anyone here?
17:03:32 [TommyGirl] hii
17:03:22 TommyGirl enters this room
Note that Tommy girl never exits the room even though she comes back in. At the time I cut and pasted there was no exit message for her 2nd visit but she was no longer there.
Bob Hubbard 03-25-2003, 07:13 PM I think what it is, is that if you 'exit' it announces it, but if you just close the browser or surf to another page, it doesnt record the 'exit'.
Elfan 03-25-2003, 10:18 PM hmm you appear to be correct.
I'm having problems again in the chat room.
Ever other time I try to send a message in the chat I get thrown off and get the login page. I can see that I'm still a part of the chat room, even if I have to log in again.
