These are the only kung fu schools I could find in Japan. I am not sure about the Northern Mantis site since there was no English language link that I could find.
Bak Tang Lang Kuen (Completely in Japanese)

Golden Center: Shaolin 5 Animal Kung-fu

Hung-Sing Choy Li Fut and Wah Lum Pai

Shaolin Wahnam Institute Japan

I could not find any Nan Tang Lang Kuen at all. There was also no branches listed in Japan for Nan Tang Lang organizations here in the states.

There is at least one Bagua schools in Japan and a rather impressive Shanxi Xingyiquan sifu (it may actually be the same school that teaches both) as well also a member of the Chen family (possibly 18th generation) use to teach Chen Taiji there and there is also, I believe, a Yiquan school there someplace as well (Wang Xiang Zhai did have at least one Japanese student) but I know nothing of any mantis schools, sorry

thank you very much for your replies....
i really do appreaciate it......
i have as yet only spoken to the kobe school....
he teaches a form of northern mantis....
however he is based in kobe and i am in nagoya...about a 3 hour train ride...
i am willing to travel about that distance a couple times a month for training...its not really ideal to to train so little but....of course i will practice bymyself at home...and something is better than nothing...
he actually gave me a name of some one who does teach southern mantis...but i am as yet unable to get in contact with him...he is based in osaka, which is a bit closer than kobe....
i guess all i can do is call all the schools and see if they teac what i want to be taught and if not are willing to point me in the right direction....
thanks again for your help in putting me on the right track...

I hope you find a school. Please let me know if you find a sifu.
I practice CCK Tai Chi Mantis (northern mantis) and I speak some Japanese (Watakushi wa sukoshi Nihongo O Hanashimasu).
I once considered living and teaching English in Japan so I can understand the difficulty of finding Chinese Kung Fu in Japan.
Good luck!

Steve

I believe that was Kenichi Sawai, he made some modifications and calls his style Taikiken.
