If you only had 2hrs. a week to teach...

As I said in the thread, "When Less is More?", a few really solid techniques that work are worth way more than a zillion flashy moves that won't. So here's my question: If a student of average ability comes to you for a couple of hours a week for six months to learn some practical FMA skills, what are the most valuable techniques you can give him? And, what would you toss aside?
