Just thought I would share this as my first post.

I did not make this video and I'm not in it but I do train with these guys.
The camera work and music are because this was done as a media studies assignment.

Interesting to watch that. Being from outside of the style, obviously some techniques are very strange to me indeed - but the one that I have the biggest question about is the 'beating with sticks' segment.
Any enlightenment as to what that signifies (beyond being able to take being hit with a stick)?

I believe it was a combination of sword technique training, target practice and slight conditioning (it was a Shinai).

Ah,thanks for additional detail on it's purpose, I had feared it was simple 'machismo' for the cameras.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been a lurker here for a while but I have not had anything much to add until now.
