If you are interested in Jet Lee, I thought that "Hero" was his best flick. The plot was a lot more interesting than I expected it to be. chrismay101 03-23-2007, 09:39 AM Cheers for the reply! both very good films got them both on DVD. Any others? terryl965 03-23-2007, 09:40 AM Anything with Bruce Lee JBrainard 03-23-2007, 09:43 AM OK, speaking of Jet Lee and Bruce Lee, all should check out "Fist of Legend." It's Jet Lee's remake of Bruce Lee's "The Chinese Connection" and is another of his best flics. mrhnau 03-23-2007, 09:50 AM Couple of my faves Iron Monkey (Don't EVER watch Iron Monkey 2) Crouching Tiger Kill Bill (both volumes) The Protector and Ong Bak (basically, anything with Jaa in it!) Most Bruce Lee flicks Honestly, there was a station that used to play those old chinese martial arts films every Saturday morning. You know, those great films where everyone can jump over walls, get stabbed 40 times but he still kills 200 men that killed his master... I miss those :) Silly, but they sure were fun. Shotgun Buddha 03-23-2007, 09:52 AM Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon! Best martial arts movie ever! FieldDiscipline 03-23-2007, 09:55 AM 'Best of the best' is good. Jet Li's 'Fearless' has to be my favourite though. Shotgun Buddha 03-23-2007, 10:17 AM 'Best of the best' is good. Jet Li's 'Fearless' has to be my favourite though. Am I the only person who doesn't like Fearless? chrismay101 03-23-2007, 10:20 AM Jet li remake of fist of fury is very good I would love something like that for enter the dragon. Would jet li be any good for a remake? Laurentkd 03-23-2007, 10:23 AM fist of legend is awesome so is tai chi master I'll watch anything Jackie Chan well, I'll watch anything martial arts period... Shotgun Buddha 03-23-2007, 10:27 AM Jet li remake of fist of fury is very good I would love something like that for enter the dragon. Would jet li be any good for a remake? Please. Please don't say remake Enter The Dragon. I just couldn't handle that. chrismay101 03-23-2007, 10:31 AM I wouldn't mind a remake of enter the dragon but I don't think there are any good movie stars up to the job! and john saxon is to old now! charyuop 03-23-2007, 11:36 AM Can't help you there...I love them all. Samurai, Ninja, Karate, Kung-fu and even Wire-fu. If there is an Art involved it is never bad. It doesn't matter how unreal the movie is, in all of them there is always at least a couple of good techniques well carried out...and they are worth watching the movie. K' Evans 03-23-2007, 11:44 AM You are probably looking for serious martial arts flicks, but if you wish to consider something for a laugh (humour), I recommend Stephen Chow's latest movie, Kung Fu Hustle. Shaolin Soccer doesn't have much martial arts, or rather it was just infused with soccer, but in any case, I would recommend those movies if you want a change from the normal serious martial arts flick. Shotgun Buddha 03-23-2007, 11:45 AM Kung Fu Hustle is one of the funniest movies ever. Heh, Ive never been a fan of serious martial ats movies, so I love stuff like that. Shaderon 03-23-2007, 11:53 AM I haven't watched many of the Bruce Lee films, or most of the others mentioned here, I prefer the female martial artist type films. My favourite actresses is Milla Jovovich, I know she only learnt what she needed to for the film (but did it well) but she is a darned good actress and I love the Resident Evil films. I can remember her doing a back-kick in a graveyard in the second one :D Kenpodoc 03-23-2007, 12:06 PM The Hunted with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio del Toro. Not very pretty but very interesting fight choreography. Jeff Journeyman 03-23-2007, 04:06 PM Recommended movies: Jackie Chan's early ones are great: Drunken Master The Young Master Snake in Eagle's Shadow Fearless Hyena Jet Li movies: Fist of Legend(my favorite Jet Li film) Once Upon a Time in China I, II, & III Hero Miscellaneous: Ong Bak(Tony Jaa) The Protector(Tony Jaa) Seven Grandmasters(one of my favorite Kung Fu movies) The Prodigal Son(entertaining movie featuring wing chun) Seven Steps of Kung Fu(I enjoyed the fight choreography in this one) Iron Fisted Monk(Sammo Hung) The Hand of Death(has Jackie Chan on the cover but he doesn't have a big role in this film) South Shaolin Master Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu(picture quality is not very good but it's an entertaining film featuring Choy Lay Fut) Five Fingers of Death(nostalgic pick-probably the first martial arts movie I saw) Big Trouble in Little China(great fun) chrismay101 03-23-2007, 08:44 PM I like the Kung fu films but im getting a bit bored of them at the moment some are great but some are a bit dull! I was very diappointed with Hero (Jet Li). Fearless was Good. Seven swords Dullllllll! House Of flying Daggers OK. (Just) Ong Back (Tony Jaa) fantastic Fights - naff story who cares fantastic fights! I know this is more thai boxing. Fist of legend - very good - fights still not as good as Fist of fury! And loads more not mentioned I wish some film company in china making a kung fu movie's would drop wire work and do just a straight kick ass one like Ong Back, Enter the dragon, Fist of fury, fist of legend lets see something that is not just chinese fairy storys were all we get is wire work and speeded up fights! Any good fight films come out of the USA? fireman00 03-24-2007, 12:28 PM Fearless (Jet Li) Kiss of the Dragon (Jet Li) Unleashed (Jet Li) The Protector (Tony Jaa) had some great action scenes. one flick to avoid at all costs, in my opinion, is the remake of the Seven Samuaria - what a piece of garbage. zDom 03-26-2007, 06:22 PM I wish some film company in china making a kung fu movie's would drop wire work and do just a straight kick ass one like Ong Back, Enter the dragon, Fist of fury, fist of legend lets see something that is not just chinese fairy storys were all we get is wire work and speeded up fights! Hear hear! IMO, wire work to simulate the effects of a hard kick = good Wire work to make people defy the laws of physics = Jason Shirley 03-26-2007, 06:41 PM jackie chan in police force aka police story think its 1985 he injured most of stunt crew after that know wanted to work with him the ending mall seen is fantastic.also drunken master two aka legend of drunken master, although drunken fitst style is something chan invented for entertianment value it appear's to have some practicule apllicatoin's. Ronin Moose 03-27-2007, 04:20 AM The Perfect Weapon with Jeff Speakman. Showcases American Kenpo well. -Garry Adept 03-27-2007, 10:21 AM jackie chan in police force aka police story think its 1985 he injured most of stunt crew after that know wanted to work with him the ending mall seen is fantastic.also drunken master two aka legend of drunken master, although drunken fitst style is something chan invented for entertianment value it appear's to have some practicule apllicatoin's. What was that in english? Personally, I like almost all martial arts films, from the very cheesy to the very cliched, to the funny and the realistic ones. It's gotta be pretty bad before I'll not watch it. Skip Cooper 03-27-2007, 08:49 PM I can't believe no one posted Kung Pow: Enter the Fist!!! That has got to be the best CHEESEY martial arts/sci-fi movie ever made. It is even well below B-movie status. I like all of Jet Li's movies and most martial art movies as well. God help me, I even like Steven Segal...more cheese factor. I am also beginning to like the guy from the Transporter movies. He was also in Crank, I believe. His name escapes me and I am too lazy to open another browser and look on IMDB. I didn't like The Last Samurai all that much. I felt like it was too much like Dances With Wolves. And I don't care for Van Damme or that Sasha guy from the show Step By Step. I think he did all of the kickboxer movies. However, when the insomnia kicks in and Bloodsport is playing on Spike TV, I will watch it anyway. Drac 03-27-2007, 09:53 PM Fearless (Jet Li) Kiss of the Dragon (Jet Li) Unleashed (Jet Li). Loved those.. Iron Monkey (Only the first one) Drunken Master (either version) Perfect Weapon ( Jeff Speakman) HKphooey 03-27-2007, 09:57 PM The Hunted with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio del Toro. Not very pretty but very interesting fight choreography. Jeff There were some sick blade fights in that movie! HKphooey 03-27-2007, 10:00 PM Fearless (Jet Li) Kiss of the Dragon (Jet Li) Unleashed (Jet Li) The Protector (Tony Jaa) had some great action scenes. one flick to avoid at all costs, in my opinion, is the remake of the Seven Samuaria - what a piece of garbage. I love the tournament seens at the end of Fearless. Touch Of Death 03-27-2007, 10:11 PM "Kill or be killed" was a fave. If I ever have to fight a pack of wolves, I'm ready. Of course I was nine when I watched this movie it may not be as good as I remember. Sean Touch Of Death 03-27-2007, 10:14 PM I haven't watched many of the Bruce Lee films, or most of the others mentioned here, I prefer the female martial artist type films. I can remember her doing a back-kick in a graveyard in the second one :DGo rent "Return of the Dragon" right now! Don't even stop at red lights. This is important.:soapbox: Sean IcemanSK 03-28-2007, 12:06 AM I'm a sucker for a lot of them. So, I can't really say I have a discriminating eye for MA cinema. But, I do really like "Best of the Best." I'd highly reccommend it. bookworm_cn317 03-31-2007, 12:00 AM The Karate Kid- the first one Best of the Best- the first one, maybe the second one any Don 'The Dragon' Wilson movie- kinda cheesy (maybe), but I like him Enter the Dragon- it's a classic Mortal Kombat- now THIS proves I'm a geek! It's just awesome. Mariachi Joe 04-20-2007, 10:53 PM If you want to see some cool modern fighting and a good story, watch SPL called Kill Zone here in the US. It's got a cool knife vs club fight between Donnie Yen and Jackie Wu. It's also got a great fight scene between Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung that uses jiujitsu. benj13bowlin 08-02-2007, 06:26 PM I love all martial arts movies from Kung Pow to Enter the Dragon, but the best fight scene ever has to be in the Protector. The fight scene in the temple against the Capoeira fighter. kingkong89 08-05-2007, 06:41 AM if your looking for laughs anything with jackie :cool:chan tntma12 08-05-2007, 08:11 AM "Only the Strong" was a pretty cool movie too!! qi-tah 08-05-2007, 12:22 PM I can't believe that no-one has mentioned the Lone wolf and cub series yet? I love those. The "Drunken master I and II" and "Big trouble in little China" films were great entertainment. I'm also with "Journeyman on enjoying "Snake in eagle's shadow" (how good was Jackie Chan in his younger days??). The old Run run shaw film "King Boxer" was pretty good too. And i don't care what anyone says, Shaolin soccer was great! http://www.martialtalk.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif Stephen Chow rules! AceHBK 08-05-2007, 01:26 PM If you want to see some cool modern fighting and a good story, watch SPL called Kill Zone here in the US. One of the BEST movies. Sammo vs. Donnie Yen...classic DTG..Dragon Tiger Gate featuring Donnit Yen ANY movie with Gordon Liu -Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang -The 36th Chambers Also any movies made by the Shaw Brothers llewis823 08-09-2007, 09:36 AM I just watched Jet Li's Fearless last night. Very good movie. Since I'm still a newbie to MA, I have all the books in the world and all the movies in the world to watch and not run out and be waiting for new ones for quite a while! I am reading "Iron & Silk" right now but the library doesn't have a copy of the movie to check out. I'll have to hit the video stores. Bumblebee 08-09-2007, 01:48 PM I'm surprised some of these weren't mentioned. The Seven Samurai - A classic tale about a village being ravaged by bandits. The peasants, who hate the samurai, set out to hire samurai willing to fight for them with food and boarding as their only compensation. An amazing film that inspired films such as The Magnificent Seven and Seven Swords as well as the anime Samurai Seven. The Musashi Trilogy - The story of the legendary Miyamoto Musashi ranging from his early life to his duel with Kojiro Sasaki. Fighter in the Wind - I'm pretty sure this movie was made in Korea. The story centers around Kyokushin founder, and former Toughest Man Alive, Mas Oyama's life as a Korean stow away looking to become a fighter pilot in Japan. Instead he revolutionizes the martial arts world defeating some of the toughest Martial Artists in Japan. Once Upon a Time in High School: The Spirit of Jeet Kune Do - The story about a high school student in I think the mid-late 70's. He attends school in a totalitarian-esque high school and befriends another guy known to be an excellent fighter. When stuff goes down, the main character will decide enough is enough and begins training in Jeet Kune Do, to finally stand up for himself. Oldboy - Not exactly a martial arts film, but it has one of the best fight scenes ever.<- Period. Now one thing that I have to add is that I'm a huge fan of the Korean fight choreography. The fights are the most realistic I've seen in a long time. There aren't too many of the old Hong Kong fight formula which is: Main character beats up all the normal guys no problem. Fights the tough guy and gets beaten up a bit, but eventually wins. Then fights the main villain, gets beaten up a lot. More dialogue, and then finally the main character defeats the main bad guy. Seriously, just watch the flicks. You'll like them. karate-dragon 08-09-2007, 04:37 PM Check out a movie made 2 years ago called "So Close". Finally see 3 women in strong roles, great sword play at the end. 009abz 08-26-2007, 01:08 AM I Cant Believe People Havent Said Blood Sport It Has To Be One Of The Best Martial Art Movies All So Undesputed 1 And 2 RED 08-26-2007, 01:39 AM The Karate Kid- the first one Best of the Best- the first one, maybe the second one any Don 'The Dragon' Wilson movie- kinda cheesy (maybe), but I like him Enter the Dragon- it's a classic Mortal Kombat- now THIS proves I'm a geek! It's just awesome. Glad you said it; Karate Kid is my favorite MA movie. I enjoy all martial arts movies. I've been looking for a couple movies The local video stores don't have: They call me Bruce and The adventures of Remo Williams. I remember seeing them when I was younger but I can't find them anywhere. Spike TV was showing some good MA movies but I think they replaced the time slot with the Power Block. It's good too but I'm a car guy too. SGT_GRUNT_USMC 08-26-2007, 11:49 AM Some of my favorites: Best of the Best Best of the Best 2 The Karate Kid 1,2,3,and 4 Enter the Dragon Bloodsport Revenge of the Ninja Night of the Warrior Forced Vengeance A Force of One AceHBK 08-27-2007, 02:19 AM Check out a movie made 2 years ago called "So Close".
