There was a funny thread here (http://www.fmatalk.com/showthread.php?t=1151) on FMAtalk from one of our members that found a pastry called Balnitakwak at a local bakery. :D :D

From what I understand, the art of Balintawak sources to the name of a street in Cebu...however, I've heard this described as a small street. Any speculation as to how the pastry got its name? :)

The word Balintawak also has great historical significance with the revolution against Spain: http://www.univie.ac.at/Voelkerkunde/apsis/aufi/rizal/har-cry.htm

So, this is why you see the word Balintawak in a lot of places in the PI.

The art was named as such as en evolutionary process. It was "self-defense club on Balintawak Street" to "Balintawak Self Defense Club" to "Balintawak." If the street that the club was located on was called San Marino, for example, we would probably be calling Balintawak "San Marino Eskrima" today. :)
