This weekend, in leiu of our normal Saturday morning conditioning class, we did the Manitou Incline ( http://www.stevegarufi.com/manitouincline.htm). One mile of distance and 1000 feet of rise.

Sounds like a beautiful walk/run, especially once you get to the top! :)

my legs ach thinking about that run but if I where many many years younger i think I could have enjoyed it

Yes, it's a very nice thing to say "I have done it..." Doing it, on the other hand, is not so nice : )

I haven't been up Manitou Incline (although I have been to Garden of the Gods, which is beautiful).
I did climb King Arthur's Seat (an extinct volcano) when I was in Edinburgh last summer - it might not be quite as steep; on the other hand, there are no steps past the first 50 feet or so. I've attached a couple of pictures. The first picture is only a few hundred feet along the path. The last one was from about 1/2 of the way to the top.
