Eraser 07-28-2002, 10:03 PM Hey gals...
Actually I have a new one to tell.. just happened on Friday night...... I was training with a younger student.. we were working on knife avoidance drills, and skeletal freezes as well.... she was going a bit to high on the block point.. and joking I said to her.. "pretty soon you'll be hitting me in the face" and YES you guessed it.. next time she tired the block.. whack.. my glasses went flying across the dojang.. she was in total shock.. i was on the floor laughing...
now ive learned.. becareful what you say... LOL:D

KenpoGirl 07-29-2002, 06:30 PM This goes with the subject of how girls are misjudge and underestimated in there abilities.
Let's begin by saying I am not a lightweight so when I held a kicking pad, and set my bracing stance I was to put it lightly equivellent to kicking a brick wall.
It always amused me when we had new student, especially guys, and we would do kicking drills with the pads. Whomever was pair up with me usually got thrown back a step or two when I did a front or side kick. (disclaimer: I of course never kicked a new person full strength), anywise, when it was my partners turn and I'd set up for them. They'd go about doing their kick and meet my unmoving pad. There was more than one occation when my partner bounced right off my pad, caught themselves and stared at me with VERY large eyes. I'd usually just smirk and say "What?" inocently. Then you'd see the determination on their faces (again especially the guys) they where going to move me even if it killed them. It became a bit of a challenge for my fellow students. The Instructor would usually cheer them all, "Come On, move her, you can do it". Only the guys that where much larger then myself ever really got me to move.
Now that I am going back into training full time again, it will be interesting to see if history will repeat itself.

Sometime we misjudge ourselves and our abilities all on our own ... well, atleast I do. :) Now come to think of it, this usually has SOMETHING to do with Kenpo Girl when it happens too... hmmm.
Kenpo Girl and I were sparring in the backyard with our instructor/friend. Although he says he is there to supervise, I suspect he enjoys the entertainment the most. He will always warn the two of us to "play nice" as he leans against the fence and watches.
As Dot mentioned - she is not easy to move. I have a pretty strong kick, and figured I would work in a thrust kick to get her off me. Too many hits to the head obviously affected my judgement.
I am not sure what happened other than I executed my kick and went BACKWARDS. I landed on my ass, Kenpo Girl stood there and shook her head in disapproval. Apparently, I wasn't to try THAT again.
Another humbling experience ... thank you Kenpo Girl.
girlychuks 07-31-2002, 12:24 PM I picked up a 14 year old black belt- one hand on the shoulder, the other on his... um... cup... and inverted him. We were doing groundfighting and he opened himself up to it.....
NOW I understand what guys are doing when they spread thier legs and hop up and down. They are, um , "straightening thing out"

FINALLY, someone understands! ;)
KenpoTess 07-31-2002, 12:43 PM Hahaaa.. yeah I've been witness to that dance many a time.. course the guys in our school don't wear cups.. *shaking head.. I came up with a knee check during sparring last night.. my partner was so very happy I didn't use force.. *chuckles
tshadowchaser 07-31-2002, 04:20 PM I am sorry but to me any school where there is any amount of contact and the guys dont wear a cup WEEELLLLL someone is going to get it sooner or later. :D
KenpoTess 09-11-2003, 12:00 AM I was sparring a multi system BB one night and that same knee kick combined with a neck grab to my knee.. instilled a lovely bloody nose on him.. Oops!!!
He scampered off the floor.. plugged his nose with tissues and came back out grinning from ear to ear and we finished the bout :) He was soo proud cuz it was a tec he had just shown me :D

I think I've had one too many hits to the head too cause I did practically the same thing. Except mine was on the kitchen floor sparring around with my brother. Little brother over towers me by a good 8 inches or so and I went for a kick to his head, wearing socks on that floor. Do I need to spell it out for the effect:erg:
FUZZYJ692000 09-11-2003, 12:22 AM Kenpo Tess and I have grappled and played around plenty of times. However, females have these things on their chest that tend to get in the way well, alot when sparring and grappling. Poor Tess we were doing these rolls with partners of some sort and she landed right on top of me. Man I think we have all been deflated in that class:D

I think grappling is a good thing to know.. and Jani is very good at it.. she's 5'1" and I'm 5'6" but she can hold her own for sure~!! Size is one thing that is not necessarily an issue, if you're trained properly not only in applying the techniques, (I think women should be aware that getting out of a leg bar/ arm bar/ choke is maybe a bit more important than applying any of them) As men will more than likely be more powerful and able to hold a female in a lock.. so knowing how to get out of it.. now this is good stuff :)
FUZZYJ692000 09-15-2003, 01:11 AM I've got to agree with Tess that grappling is really important. Most females if they ever have to actually use their training it's probably going to be against a guy that's 2x's their body wieght and wanting "sex" or other acts along that line. In general most of this is going to happen on the ground, bed, couch, something to that effect and if you don't know your strengths and weaknesses on the ground then you aren't going to be prepared at all for it. I was pinned once by one of our guys, mind you like Tess said to most of them I'm a midget, and he had me pretty good, however, I used my environmental awareness and inched my way toward a wall and managed to get my feet on the wall and flip up and over the top of him so that he had no choice but to let go or loose a limb. Everyone was really impressed, but women have to remember that the strongest part on them is normally in their legs and it's like a vice-grip when you have someone's head pinned between them and squeezing. That's just my 2 cents though:asian:
Cruentus 09-15-2003, 01:21 PM We used to have this one female black belt back who was a champion tournament fighter (back in my TKD days). She could beat most guys. Also, her kicks were harder then most guys. LOL...we liked to let the egotistical guys hold the kicking shields for her just to watch em squirm. I guess the "off the wall" part was to watch this smaller female practically knock men twice her size to the ground, just from them holding the kicking shield! :D
LadyDragon 09-24-2003, 01:56 PM Here's a quick little story of something I did during my brown belt test.
My uki who was a guy (a taller and bigger guy than I), was coming at me full force with a thrust kick. I deflect the block and kicked him dead in the groin. Of course, this wasn't my intention, and I could've sworn that I almost killed him and stuck his bits and pieces up in to his skull. But lucky for me after doing his little dance, he managed to get back up and help me finish my test.
I could've sworn that after that moment I was going to fail. But hey, it was my targeting for someone his size.
