There is a really well run tournament occuring on Nov.5, 2005 in Minneapolis MN. I would recommend anyone within driving distance to check it out. For more info contact info@mmaacombatzone.com .
Last year they had huge kids division and also divisions for gi and no gi grappling. Anyone who wants to test themselves in a great setting with high calibre opponents should definitely not miss this. Divisions according to experience and weight will be in effect.
We aren't part of the club who puts it on, but we did attend last year and all I can say was that it was extremely well done. Divisions kept moving at a steady pace and the reffing was excellent.

I have a buddy who used to train with a submission club down in the Twin Cities. I might have too look into this.

If I am not mistaken the club that puts on this event is the club that Sean Sherk trains out of. Well worth checking out the club and the event.

Like I said, anyone interested in some great gi or no gi grappling should check it out. Lots of kids and great competition for the adults. Quite a few ladies show up as well so it isn't a guaranteed gold or silver like some of the other comps.
I know where we are located (Winnipeg) there are VERY few tournaments, especially within a reasonable drive so don't miss this one!!!

I've been to some shiai in Winnipeg...I wouldn't say there's a lack of good competition, but for strictly submission or no gi matches are few and far between in a lot of places

I've been to some shiai in Winnipeg...I wouldn't say there's a lack of good competition, but for strictly submission or no gi matches are few and far between in a lot of places I only know of one tournament this year in Winnipeg. There are lots out west and into Ontario but those are MAJOR drives. So any serious grapplers in Winnipeg, gi or nogi, who want to test their skills out against others shouldn't miss this.
There is tons of good grappling in Winnipeg, just no competitions. We have great schools here in BJJ, submission wrestling, and MMA. Most of the serious schools we have run into at competitions in Alberta but unfortunately it is hard to get people to drive that far.
Maybe someday my coach (or one of the other big three schools in Winnipeg) will host a tournament.

Just an update, I have heard there is going to be at least one superfight at this tournament...should be great!
Again, if you want to see some great BJJ or nogi grappling and some incredible superfight action you may want to check this tournament out.

Nice gallery pics too. The superfight between Rodrigo Munduruca and Caio Malta was incredible.
