SUPER GRANDS IN NEW ORLEANS
We only told one person where the SG is last Thursday night and by Friday it seems the whole world knew. If only we could communicate other things that quickly!
DATES
SG 2005 will open Sunday, November 20 with pre-registration and a FREE Opening Ceremony’s Party held ontop of the hotel overlooking New Orleans. The party will include free food, Mardi Gras Pinatas, swimming pool, hot tub and performance platform to run various fun games for all ages in the afternoon and evening. Like all previous NBL events, expect to have a blast. Pre-registration again Monday with competition starting 8pm that evening. SG will end Saturday night November 26 with our famed Victory Party and large screen slide show highlighting photos of the week long competition.
HOTEL
IMPORTANT INFO - Please read carefully.
Many amateur sports such as soccer and gymnastics are now requiring that participants and attendees stay at their host hotels in order for the hotel to produce enough revenue to provide space at a reasonable cost for the sporting event. In order to provide the facility space needed for a successful SG, we must offer a similar resolution this year. All participants (or parent or legal guardian of juniors) that are registered at the host hotel for the duration of their competition will pay the standard competition fees without increase from prior years. Those not registered at the hotel will pay an increase of $20 per division this year. This will not apply to competitors with home zip codes in Mississippi and Louisiana 39500 to 39699, 70000 to 70499 & 70700 to 70899 (local attendees).
Despite going to a more expensive city than last year, we have negotiated a $10 a night cheeper guest room rate. Complimentary guest parking will offset expenses even more (read below). To receive the competitor registration discount the players name (or parent/guardians name for 17 and under) must be registered as guest for the days of their competition. There will be a limit of two adult competitors allowed to be registered per room or unlimited competitors if it is the same family members (or guardians with 17 and under) in a room. DO NOT think hosting others in your room or putting their name on the hotel registration rooming list will work, as the hotel is only allowing two names to be registered per room with two beds or a single bedroom with a rollaway (excluding families with 17 and under).
Competition will be held in the Park Plaza Hotel, 1500 Canal Street, walking distance from the French Quarter. $109 standard room, $119 deluxe room (more space) - must mention “Super Grands”. Phone 504-522-4500. This is The Bayou Classic Convention weekend in New Orleans so hotels will book-up early on the weekend. Get your reservation in soon.
PARKING
Parking in New Orleans is expensive like all large cities i.e, New York, Washington, San Francisco, etc. Parking averages $20-$30 per night. We’ve negotiated for parking to be only $15 per day at our hotel for attendees, however the NBL has agreed to pay all parking for SG attendees during the days they are registered at the hotel (limit 1 vehicle per guest room). Parking will automatically be taken off your bill as the NBL is paying for it. Do not come to us for complementary parking. No, they are not giving us your parking for free and we’re not making a percentage on it. We are paying for it as the hotel sub-leases its parking from another company.
COMPETITION DAYS
Unfortunately we haven’t set the schedule for divisions yet, but it appears as if will be closely mirror image last year’s schedule. However we’re not guaranteeing that yet.
