View Full Version : She BIT my husband

I have to tell this story 'cause the whole thing is just too funny not to.
We were doing a self-defense demo at one of our local ladies' fitness studios last night. Things were rolling along just fine until we got to the question and answer part of the program.

This woman came up to my husband with this smirk and asked what to do if someone grabbed her by the hair (you could tell by the look on her face that she was about to try something stupid). For those of you who know sd you know hair grabs are fairly easy to deal with. So he grabs a handful of her hair and instead of waiting for him to explain how to save her hair and then strike she went bananas. Started throwing wild punches all over the place (no power whatsoever) and kicks that didn't land anywhere so he wrapped her up in a rear bear hug, which she still could have gotten out of if she slowed down and listened to what he was trying to tell her.

Anyway, she latched onto his arm with her teeth. By this time the entire room was dead silent and I was just standing there with my mouth hanging open. Do I interfere or not? Not. Now my husband is very slow to anger but even he has his limits. So he picked up her, she's still hanging onto his arm with her teeth, and took her to the floor. There wasn't any force he just wanted to prove a point and he started throwing punches at her - no contact of course all the time trying to explain that what she was doing was WRONG and could get her seriously injured.

After she finally settled down he let her up and explained that at any time he could have knocked her out cold and after he got her to the ground she would have been in real trouble because she wasn't picking her targets, etc., etc.

She looked up at him and said "Well what I did worked, you let go of my hair." I couldn't stop myself, I just busted out laughing. She probably still thinks she got the better of him. There's always one in every crowd.

On a serious note, I hope she's never really attacked because she's going to be in deep you-know-what. Know-it-alls are worse than people who are fully aware that they don't have a clue but don't want to do anything about it.

It's always interesting to find out what some people's preconcieved notions about SD are. Heh.

Something works once for a person, and they generalize. Every street fighter has 2 or 3 tricks that have worked for him several times...but not the repertoire and experience of a whole style.

Wow, she's like a self defense heckler! :uhyeah: I'm not sure how I would have handled that. It's a good thing she didn't hurt herself in the process, and was your husband hurt? I hope he cleaned his arm well. Human bites can cause serious infections. Maybe the lesson here is that in doing these types of seminars we need to ask why (especially with the smirk on her face) - in other words have participants explain the reasoning behind their questions before demonstrating on a stranger. It seems she had premeditated that action and maybe understanding her intentions would have helped to avoid that. Another way to avoid that is to have the demonstrations done on women from your school who have training in all the possible scenarios for the question and answer peroid. Overall it's unfortunate, because in not listening she obviously missed out, and she may have confused other participants with her antics.

Tom's fine. She didn't break the skin but he cleaned his arm with peroxide anyway.

The woman was tiny. Maybe 5' tall and I doubt she weighted 100 lbs. For a second there she just sort of hung from his arm by her teeth. Reminded me of a chihuahua trying to chew on a bull dog.

I guess we weren't really prepared for the situation. Never have we had anything like this happen. I'm not sure if she was trying to show that she could get the better of the instructor or that our methods don't work or what.

We did explain the proper way to get out of the hold and what areas were open to a strike. The woman just ended up making a fool of herself really.

There were a lot of different vendors there and she managed to get in the middle of everyone's business. I saw her later in the evening trying to teach the woman from the bellydance school how to do her job too. So I'm under the impression that she just had to be the center of everyone's world. Annoying.

there's a thought for the two of you to giggle about in your old age! I'm glad your hubby wasn't hurt!

*a chihuahua trying to chew on a bull dog.*

I like that metaphor. :uhyeah: Whether or not the chihuahua gets away with it depends on how the bulldog is feeling....

Yeah, it's amazing how much people THINK they know about SD or MA. I also hope for her sake that she never gets attacked on the street because she will definitely be in big trouble. Your husband is to be commended for the way he handled the situation--glad he's ok. And, being a good teacher he also told her what she was doing wrong in the hopes of getting her to use her brain cells.

That's pretty bad. I wouldn't be very happy if someone did that to my husband. :(

I have several issues with the whole bitting thing. First of all, I like my teeth right where they are. And secondly, with all the diseases that are out there now, do you really want to take the chance of possibly piercing someones skin and then having the blood in your mouth. NO THANKS!!! I'll find another way to deal with what ever the situation might be......

So rape/death is preferable to the possible transmission of blood-borne pathogens? Sometimes a situation may call for it, I don't think it is anyones first option.

Blood-borne pathogens can still be transferred sexually during rape. So given the option, I'd rather bite and do everything I can to defend than to allow myself to be raped and/or killed.
