95% of all self-defence classes for women cover only the "standing" aspect of defence. This is because teachers generally dont know what to do when on the ground. :( It is extremely important to know both.
Generally, when a man really whats to bring a women on the ground, he succed. Unfortunately, that is a fact. Some ground technique may prevend women from being raped. Thoses techniques are in favor of the women, she uses her legs, arms and whole body generally against one limbs allowing it to break it or simply force an escape opportunity. The guard position is crucial against rape assault.
So I encourage all women to know how to fight on their legs and on their back. Train smart.

To all,
The Legs are the strongest muscles on the body.
I demonstrate this by having women on their backs
hold me up. My Mass is about 265 lbs. or 120.45
kgs. The women are 100 lbs. / 45.4 kgs on up.
I agree that women should know how to fight from
the guard and the mount positions.
It is very helpful to anyone for self-defense.
Best wishes to all
Rich

Im in total agreement with you all on this...
I study Hapkido.. and we do spend time on the floor grappling and learning how to get out of various chokes and holds.. its extrememely important (and not just because im a girl) that women who want to learn how to defend themselves, learn ground tecniques as well.... I can understand at first it can be a bit akward and scarey.. ( i mean.. HEY.. you are voluntarily putting yourself in a vunerable position) I have complete trust in my instuctors (who are guys) in what they are training me for... if your extremely nervous.. work with women first.. but dont be afraid of the boys.. 98% chance it will be a male attacker so you have to have your mindset prepared as well..

Many instructors fail to teach this aspect because they are uncomfortable climbing on top of a woman to teach her how to defend herself. I have also heard that some women become very uncomfortable at the thought of the instructor and them on the ground together.
Many instructors may think it is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Most of the time we do grappling tecniques.. he will pair up the women with women.. but sometimes im the only girl there.. so i work with instructor.. if you can trust your instructor, how can you train any other stuff.. I mean, I started in Jan this year with the school and they are just now showing these types of tecniques... Im sure if he was doing this during the first week of training.. it would be a different story... we have all built up a trust with him and his two sons (we have 3 head instructors! which is a great plus) and understand that there is no threat!! I guess it just takes time...

Not me. I used to belong to a judo school that had 4 sisters who used to all love to jump me and grapple with me all at once.
Seriously, hearing, "Excuse me, will whomever has their boob in my eye, will they please shift? I think you're scratching my cornea." will really make you die laughing.
That and, "Come on, my knee didn't hurt your nuts that bad now did it?"

one thing though, you probably should train to fight on the ground with punxhes also because most people don't realy know how to ground fight (unless they were high school wrestlers) and are probably gona throw in some blows if they meat reistance.
Training allowwing punches realy changes things in a ground fight.
