I hope this is going to be on the right path.
Skipping,
Pressing,
Pinning,
Leg checks, - gravity check
a. thundering hammers, your right against his right leg
then when dropping with the left hammer fist the left leg checks against his right leg
b. used in application for buckling a leg from the front.
Grabbing,
Isn't there an open end triangle or is that not considered a check?

Unfortunately that's all that comes to mind at the moment. There's more but I just can't think at the moment.

Pinning, sliding, push down, leg or knee checks, you can also use various parts of the body for checks as well; such as your head, different parts of the arms, shoulders, etc. lots of body parts can be used to check your opponents weapons, positions, etc. This is only a small part I'm sure.

Infinite Insights -

I think the catagories are: Active & Passive

"Positional" being passive (I am at work without the books), and checks can be executed by different parts of the body. Most people think hands or legs, but it could be a hip, or shoulder, or in my case the "relaxed muscle" around my waist. Hee-hee.

pressing
pinning
sliding
gliding
riding
vice-like

Then there are some Specialized Checks

lifting
scissoring
supressing
et. al.

I'm going to make this kind of quick, I'm at work and probably shouldn't even be on here but.

Skipping Check- used in shield and mace
Pressing Check- used in deflecting hammer
Pinning Check - used in lone kimono or triggered salute
Gravitity Check - used in thundering hammers
Grabbing Check - used anywhere I prefer to control rather than use a pressing check.
Sliding Check - used in lone kimono as the last move to check the opponent downward diagonal
Frictional Pull - used in triggered salute
And many more that I can't remember or don't know of. I hope this was right.

From Further Insights into Kenpo by Lee Wedlake

"Grabbing, trapping, pinning, hugging, sliding, and positioning (He [Ed Parker] named many more over the years including striking, pressing, rolling, and burdening. The term check used to be called cover since it was used in anticipation.)

A very awesome essay on checking is in this book and I would definatly recommend it.
