It will have to be a night I am not wasted from teaching. Going to bed now, but would like to see if we can hook it up.

The few times I have used it have been less than rewarding.

I have it. I get better video from Yahoo Messenger though. But
it'd be decent for conferencing.

We used it a few times at my last workplace. I wasn't responsible for setting it up, and really haven't looked into it that much, but I think it would be fun to do so.....

I'm always on the lookout for new toys...:D

Peace--

I have found that it doesn't work as well if both parties dont have cable or high speed access.

The technology world has finally reached our little corner of Texas, and I am hoping to be on DSL this time next week, so I will be buying one of those web cameras and trying to hook up the Net forum stuff. Mr. C, any suggestions on some lower end gear that I can use for net meetings???

The better the processor in your computer and high speed lines are the only way to go...... I am running a pent IV 1gig processor and cable.
The cam I use is logic tech which I feel is good but any will probably do well.

Don't forget about memory. There's only so much processing
a cam needs to be effective. The more RAM, the faster big ol'
data chunks can stream to your computer.

Parallel port cams are the cheesiest (and most inexpensive)
that I've seen in my experience. USB web cams are the way
to go, and worth the extra tiny bit of money.

I'm a computer proffesional, so I can say this, before anyone
questions me .. in Texas, YES, "big ol' data chunks" is a
technical term! :D

I forgot...... I've got a gig of ram so I don't even worry about it anymore..

Gotta disagree. I've had much higher picture quality form the parallel port cams than I have the USB cams. I was a computer professional before the great purge of 2001. Now I am looking for a new career......

Yeah, but you were a West Virginia computer professional ;)

I can hook you up with a job down here :D If you do IT stuff,
that is.

First let me say,

Kalicombat getting DSL....I must be rubbing off on ya. That will be great.

Second,

Mr. Billings watch out for those netmeetings with Mr. C, his camera hasn't been working so he'll see you, but you won't see him.

Finally,

I think it's a great thing, along with e-mailing digital vids of techniques to get insight from the Seniors. It's good stuff and a technology we've never been able to use before. Take advantage if you can.
